Kalle Kalima (b. 1973 in Helsinki, Finland) began his journey into sound with piano lessons at the age of six. Five years later he switched over to the guitar and has never looked back. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and at the Hanns Eisler Conservatory in Berlin under the guidance of Raoul Björkenheim and John Schröder to name a few. After taking up residence in Berlin, Kalima has experienced a revelation in his attitude towards free music.
So far Kalle has worked with trumpeter Tomasz Stanko and multi-instrumentalist Jimi Tenor, saxophonists Daniel Erdmann, Ben Abarbanel-Wolff, Harri Sjöström, Volker Schlott, Henrik Wahlsdorf and Adam Peroncik, bass players Sirone, Chris Dahlgren, Carlos Bica & Ed Schuller, guitarist Marc Ducret, pianists Mircea Tiberian and Jo Bartmes, drummers Maurice De Martin and Mikko Hassinen, composer Simon Stockhausen, and the bands Babybonk and Rhythm Taxi.
Klima Kalima (Kalle Kalima, guitar - Oliver Potratz, bass - Oliver Steidle, drums) is an energetic jazz trio with an expressive and original sound. The music is, however, rooted in the tradition of modern jazz. band plays mostly Kalle Kalima´s compositions. The band has released a debut album, "Helsinki on my mind", at ZYX Music in 2004.

Presenting a combination of reckless abandon and structural thinking, Kalle Kalima is one of the most fascinating Finnish musicians at the moment. ...the guitarist has managed to formulate a unique sound both as a musician and as a tunesmith.
(HELSINKI HAPPENS, Petri Silas, Finnland, 01/01)
...with his guitars Kalle Kalima proves to be a far reaching story-telling talent.
