Kenny Werner was born on Long Island on Now. 11, 1951. He started piano lessons at age 7 and after one year of studiing at the Manhattan School of Music he headed north to Berklee in Boston and spent three years there. After Berklee he worked several years in Brazil and the Bermudas. When he returned to New York he worked with his old friends Joe Lovano, Joey Baron and John Scofield. In the 80s Werner played with the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. He recorded with Loe Lovano, Chris Potter, Tom Harrell, Archie Shepp, Mel Lewis, Peter Erskin and many others. His recent trio features the sublime rhythm pair of bassist Dave Holland and drummer Jack DeJohnette. recorded feb. 3, 1980 at Penthouse Studio, NYC
