Art Farmer,
was born on August 21st, 1928 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. At the age of 17, together with his
twin-brother, bassist Addison Farmer, he toured through the US with Jay McShanns
group . After that Art Farmer had engagements with such prominent sax-players as Benny
Carter, Teddy Edwards, Wardell Gray, and Gerry Mulligan.
Farmers co-leader collaborations with saxophonists Gigi
Gryce, Benny Golson, and Jimmy Heath are well known. Due to the success of their
"Killer Joe" recording the Jazztet with Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller and the
young McCoy Tyner became the most famous of these groups.
In 1968 Farmer moved to Vienna, Austria, where he
continues to life. Since that time he has been constantly working with Fritz Pauer, one of
the most experienced pianists in Europe .Art Farmer and Fritz Pauer were regular guests in
the legendary Munich jazzclub Domicile. Club owner Ernst Knauff -hes my hometown
buddy - arranged and produced this live recording on May 4, 1970. He treated the tapes
like a bottle of good wine and kept them in his cellar till he thought, " nows
the time to open the treasure chest", and offered me the opportunity to release these
tapes. This is the pleasing result. Enjoy the Art Farmer quartet ! Enjoy enja !
